RRS Arrests Six Kid-robbers In Oshodi

In what appeared to be a clampdown on criminals operating in Oshodi, prelude to the festive seasons, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six teenage mobile phone thieves in Oshodi.

The suspects were all apprehended the same day in Oshodi while brazenly dispossessing commuters of their belongings.

The suspects; Ganiyu Rahman Sadiq Adebayo (15); Timilehin Oluwaseun (14); Ogundare Moyinoluwa (18); Toheeb Tijani (19) and Adeleke Sodiq (17) were arrested on Friday morning in Oshodi Oke.

According to one of the suspects, Ganiyu Rahman, “we are over 50 boys. We are always in Oshodi-Oke, from morning till late night.... Some of us genuinely help people to carry their loads while a lot of us are there to snatch handbags, phones and other valuables from people....

“At times, we pretend to be helping them but our focus is their valuables. Most times, we work in groups. While the other is helping out, another person is stealing the victim’s valuables either from bag or pocket.... There are some other guys who forcibly dispossess passers-by of their belongings. These gangs operate early in the morning and late at night when their victims are helpless,” he noted.

Getting personally, Rahman disclosed that he is a product of a broken home which has seen his parents remarrying: “I have been sleeping in Oshodi Under Bridge since 2013.... I work as conductor and whenever am not, I am with my peer to rob and snatch valuables in Oshodi...

“We were three when we stole the Microsoft phone from a lady’s bag. We pretended to be helping the lady to get a bus, meanwhile, our intent was her phones. I have been committed to 13 month rehabilitation by the Lagos State Taskforce but my home is in Oshodi Under Bridge,” he stated.

His victim, Sarah Obende, an undergraduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), disclosed that “I thought I had lost the phone.... I discovered it was missing immediately I boarded a bus in Oshodi. I received a call in the evening that I should come to Alausa to collect my phone.”

Another suspect, Sadiq Adebayo, who was allegedly in company of two other boys while stealing an iPhone and a phantom Techno phone from a car, disclosed, “Osas and Janbele stole the two phones in my presence.... We have sold the two phones along with seven other phones to Tuwo in Idi Oro, Mushin. They gave me N7,000 from the proceeds."

Four of the remaining suspects, namely: Timilehin Oluwaseun, Ogundare Moyinoluwa, Toheeb Tijani and Adeleke Sodiq were all separately apprehended while stealing phones and purse from commuters in similar circumstances.

The onslaught on criminals has been stretched to various black spots in the state. Responding to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Dolapo Badmos, said Police would leave no stone unturned in getting rid of criminal elements within the State, urging parents to monitor the activities of their wards and children. The suspects have been transferred to Lagos State Taskforce

I Bought Two Human Heads For N10,000 — Herbalist

Olufemi Atoyebi

Three persons in possession of two human skulls have been arrested at a hideout in Ogbomoso by policemen from the Oyo State Police Command.

The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, said the arrest was made after the police received information from members of the public, who had raised the alarm that the suspects were dealing in human parts.

One of the skulls was discovered to have had what looked like a deep machete cut at its temple, leaving the police to suspect that the person the head belonged to might have been gruesomely killed.

Ramoni Akeem, 41, Azeez Ojelade, 36, and Salimon Salami, 40, were the suspects arrested by the police.

Akeem said he paid N10, 000 for the skulls and that Salami was the vendor.

Akeem said, “I am a herbalist and I heal people with herbs. I have never used body parts for rituals. One day, a friend came to me and said his friend discovered two corpses on a land where he had wanted to cut trees. He asked if I knew what body parts could be used for. I told him that I did not know anything about charms prepared with body parts.

“One of our friends, Saheed Ifa, who is a senior herbalist, heard about it and said he could make use of the skulls to prepare charms. When the skulls were produced, the man who brought them demanded for N10, 000. I paid him in four instalments. But that is all I know about the skulls. Ifa has travelled to Lagos. I don’t know where he lives in Lagos.”

Salami, who claimed to have discovered the corpses, denied any wrongdoing.

He said, “I was asked to cut some trees on a large piece of land but when I got there, I discovered two corpses and I told a friend that I was afraid to work on the land because someone killed two people there.

He said I should continue with my work while he looked for what to do with the corpses. When he got a buyer, he contacted me and I went back to the bush and dismembered the heads from the bodies,” he said.

Ondo Poll Outcome Will Shock Politicians – Primate Ayodele

— 30th October 2016

…Says judiciary’s travail, proof of his predictions

By ENYERIBE EJIOGU (enyeribee@yahoo.com)

The founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, has said that Nigerians should not have been shocked by the Gestapo style crackdown on justices of the Supreme Court and judges of the Federal High Court and some state High Courts by the Department of State Services, DSS, as what happened was foretold.

He also said that the outcome of the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State would demonstrate the resolute will of the people to ensure that their choice would prevail in the poll and thereby further clip the wings of political kingmakers by voting for specific individuals irrespective of the party.

Ayodele who spoke with Sunday Sun reporter recalled his predictions on 2016 made in December 2015, when he said that the judiciary would face a travail following the indictment of some judges.

Back then, the primate had said: “Let’s hope and pray that we do not lose any judge or that lawyers don’t go on strike. Some judges will be indicted.”

In what can easily be interpreted as a fulfillment of the prediction, the DSS on October of 7 and 8, this year, raided the homes of some judges in a brazen manner and arrested nine of them on allegation of taking shocking sums of money, in both local and foreign currencies as bribe and other related misconduct.

But what has happened so far, is just a tip of the iceberg as Ayodele emphatically said that judicial officers should expect more stormy seas ahead of them: “There will continue to be trouble in the judiciary. A lot of what will come out of the judiciary will not promote the image of the country.”

Turning to the November 2016 Ondo State governorship election, he said that the people of Ondo have to be very prayerful, saying that what will happen is a big signal to APC.

“There will be riots and battles as a result of the election. In the Ondo election, people will not vote according to party lines. Rather votes will be cast for particular individuals irrespective of the party they belong to as members. That is also what will happen in subsequent Nigerian elections. People will insist on individuals. They will defend their votes.”

Beyond the Ondo election, Primate Ayodele said that the relationship between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate would become more acrimonious.

His words: “The Senate will have serious battles with Buhari. The government will take several decisive steps to rubbish a lot of people politically. There are a lot of forces working against this government. The government wants to do well but it is hindered by hidden forces working against it. That is why the government must take good care to neutralize the problem. Until they do it, the administration cannot move forward. That is why the government is not getting solutions to many things. There are forces working against it. They have to properly identify the forces, otherwise …”

Graham Chukwunoso Jacobs In Sex Scandal With Church Member -TheBreakingTimes.com

EXPOSED: ONE OF THE MANY ATROCITIES OF OF THE RUACH GOSPEL CENTRE

How Prophet Graham Chukwunonso Jacobs of Ruach Gospel Centre impregnated Church member

Nigerian churches have a way of immersing themselves into scandals and controversies. The pastors and prophets are always entangled in love webs, exploiting innocent and unsuspecting men and women who look up to them with utmost respect for direction. If they are not sleeping and taking advantage of the women in their congregation (especially those that are deemed vulnerable), they are obtaining money (and other material things) from the men by false pretence. These stories have left some of us with bad tastes in our mouth as we wonder what Nigerian churches have turned into.

After several reports and complaints by men and women alike, an investigation into the life of Prophet Graham Chukwunoso Jacobs of Ruach Gospel Centre located at Shabak Centre, No. 43 Ajose Adeogun Street, Utako by Peace Mass Transit has revealed so much filth and dishonour. On Saturday, I met with a "heartbroken" Ms Anita (not her real name), a single woman in her early 30s and a member of Prophet Graham Chuwkunonso Jacobs' church. She gave me a breakdown of her ordeal with this agent of doom and it was an utterly displeasing encounter.

Her story:

"Prophet Graham Chukwunonso Jacobs and I started talking sometime in June this year. He started off as a really nice man especially as I attended his church. We got really close and we kept in touch. He called me frequently and I kept returning the gesture. As nature would have it, we started developing feelings for each other (or so I thought). He told me stories of how he was a virgin and has never been with a woman before. I found this very rare and cute yet believable.

I believe this was because of his disposition and my view of him as a prophet. As we got into July, our discussions began to get more intense and we started talking marriage. As is the norm with unsuspecting women and our perception of supposed "men of God", I immediately let down my defences. I had been celibate for so long (a year and 8 months) and in my mind, I was waiting for the one God was going to send to me. All this while, he had never visited me at home until the 12th of August.

On that fateful day and with all the excitement, we got really intimate but we did not have sex. He kept ringing how he wanted me to be his wife and this got me falling the more for him. On the 17th of August, Prophet Graham again visited, this time we could not hold ourselves anymore and we eventually had sex. He acted like a virgin all through our lovemaking, giving me the impression that he had not done this before and did not know what to do. I kept giving him directions.

He really got me with this and my feelings for him began to deepen. Something surprising happened two days later when he visited. He came knocking and as I opened the door, he grabbed me, turned me over and started making love to me. He did things to me that you would only see in Karma Sutra videos and this got me thinking. After the episode, I got worried that I had been lied to and I confronted him, questioning him on his mannerism and the level of skill he showed while we made love. He answered me saying he had started watching porn and had learnt a thing or two within the past two days.

As naive as I was and clouded by my feelings for him, I believed him. Our lovemaking became a regular thing. The relationship went well until September 9th which was a day before his birthday. Prophet Jacobs knew my itinerary and he normally would just show up at my door. On that fateful eve of his birthday, he showed up at my house at around 10pm, went on his knees, held my legs and kept saying he was sorry. I was confused at the time. I kept asking for what but he kept saying he was sorry.

I started thinking he was apologizing for not picking my calls the day before and I told him it was ok. He got up and I asked him if he was spending the night as the next day was his birthday and he replied saying he could not spend the night as he had to get home by 12am to be with his mum and sisters as it had become a tradition to pray for him on his birthday.

I pleaded with him frantically because I wanted to surprise him but he was adamant. I then tried to sway him by insisting that I was not going to make love to him since he was leaving. He kept begging and as I was not as stubborn as he was, I gave in and we made love. As it clocked 11:30pm, he got off saying he had to go.

I tried to persuade him to stay till 12 so that I can at least wish him a happy birthday as I had prepared a surprise for him. He still declined and seeing how determined he was to leave, I gave up. He opened the door and as he walked out, he told me not to walk him out insisting that it was late.

That made little sense because I always walked him out whenever he was leaving so it felt strange that he insisted I stayed indoors. I eventually agreed but dissatisfied with his actions that night so I ran to my kitchen to look out the window as I felt something was amiss. I was startled to see him drive by with a white Range rover because I knew he had a hummer and a hilux. I had to rush out to ask the security man to confirm what I saw and he confirmed that he was the one who drove off in a white Range rover.

Minutes later, he called and when I asked who the white Range rover belonged to, he replied saying it belonged to his friend, Martins Mbaka. We spoke till about 11:55 and then he hangs up abruptly. All efforts to reach him on phone proved abortive as he did not pick his calls anymore. I became saddened because I had not even wished him a happy birthday. Coincidentally, I was moving houses that same week which lasted for four days. I kept calling for hours and when I realized he was not going to pick up no matter how many times I called, I sent him birthday wishes through whatsapp.

I continued calling in the morning until about 8am when he finally picked. After wishing him a happy birthday, I asked him what happened. He told me as soon as he got home, he saw him mum and sisters waiting for him and they got into prayers immediately. All through that day, I did not see or hear from him till evening. I was busy trying to move my things to the new house so I got carried away a bit.

When he eventually called, we spoke for some time before he hung up. I finished what I had to do at about 8pm and then I tried to reach him by 9pm hoping we could spend some time together to celebrate his birthday. To my greatest surprise, he picked up asking "who is this". I kept saying "baby" and he kept asking "who are you? This is Prophet Graham C.N. Jacobs, I do not know you". Hurt as I was, I hung up and sent him a really sober text and minutes later, he called saying he was sorry.

At this point, I became extremely confused. He then sold me a lie of how he was with the assistant pastor of the church, the wife and some elders of the church discussing on the choice of tent they wanted to buy for the church. He then explained that the assistant pastor was with his phone looking at pictures of some tents he had downloaded when my text came in.

According to him, the assistant pastor mistakenly opened the SMS and read it, then passed it to his wife who also read it and was passed the elders who also helped themselves. he continued his story of how the assistant pastor and the elders got angry amidst the feeling of betrayal because he did not inform them that he was in a relationship. they subsequently stormed out of the meeting.

He stayed on the phone with me till almost 3am pleading that he wanted to put me on a conference call to which he would ask three questions: "Do I know you", "are we in a relationship" and "have I ever been to your house" to which I should answer No to all of them. I declined because I felt it was very stupid. After much pleading, I agreed but to my greatest surprise, instead of him to put me on a conference call, he started recording our conversation while asking me the questions.

I hung up immediately. He immediately called back and pleaded that they were not reachable, that was why he was recording so that he could play it back for them. I was already fed up with the drama and so I just gave him what he wanted and hung up.

From that day, he never visited me again. He started keeping his distance and barely called although we would see in church till I noticed I was pregnant. I have tried reaching him since then and he has been very evasive. I had no other option than to meet the elders of the church and after narrating my story to them, they summoned him for different meetings and up till now, he has declined to respond. This is very painful as I do not know what next to do. I feel really betrayed and used by a "supposed" man of God. I am at crossroads at the moment and the trauma I have suffered since the his real mission came to the fore has been huge".

Anita's narrative is just one in a long line of criminal acts by Prophet Graham C.N. Jacobs who has been accused of dating married women in his church, rape, obtaining by false pretence and fetish activities. There is also a case of one Mrs. Lotanna who has been ruthlessly swindled by this conman in the name of being a man of God. Even the white Range rover belongs to the husband of someone he is dating and was not given to him by the so called Martins but his wife, who is also in a love affair with the Prophet. However, in our next episode, we will be interviewing a rape victim. This particular case is currently being investigated by the Police and major evidence points to the fact that the so called Prophet is a criminal. It is very sad that our churches have become houses of immorality with the leaders playing the lead roles.

Man Buys And Destroys 15 Iphones After Attendant Insulted Him

A man in Thailand has become an internet sensation after a video of him buying and destroying over 15 i-phones including the store.

Trouble started for the Iphone dealers when the man stepped into the store to buy an Iphone 7. The man whom didn't look genuinely interested in buying the device was asking a couple of questions about the phone when the attendant lost it and asked if he could afford the phone?

This deeply angered the man who then smashed the phone on the table, paid and left the store. He returned the next day, this time he bought all the I-phones in the store and destroyed all of them. He then proceeded to give extra cash to the store owner before destroying the entire store. At the end of the footage, he is seen leaving the store premises in a Roll Royce 'Ghost'.

We Won’t Tell Efcc To Arrest Jonathan – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the present administration will not dictate to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Osinbajo, who said this in response to a question on whether the former president would be arrested for alleged corruption during his administration, added that the Buhari’s administration was not in the business of arresting just anyone, indiscriminately.

The vice president said all that the present administration “does is to empower security agencies and the anti-corruption agencies to do their jobs without the administration trying to teleguide them.”

Osinbajo added, “corruption is not an ethnic thing, there is an equal representation in the stealing as no one operates with his/her ethnic group alone. The culprits are in every case seen so far, united by greed to steal and not by ethnic or religious interest.”

He decried a situation where as much as $15 billion arms purchase fund disappeared from the national coffers into private pockets, saying no responsible government would “wave that aside so as not to offend people.”

On the recent arrest of some judges, the vice president explained that impunity could be very dangerous in any sector and that “the federal government is only exercising its executive function in attempting to check excesses.”

The vice president, who spoke in Houston, Texas, while interacting with Nigerians living in the United States, added that the important thing was that due process was being followed as the judges were released about 24 hours after their arrest and after they had given their statements.

The vice president attributed the current economic recession in Nigeria to the loss of about 60 percent of government’s revenue due to pipeline vandalism and “endemic corruption” in the system.

He maintained that getting back oil production “is a sure way to get out of the recession and the federal government is working to sort it out.”

He further stated that security agencies had arrested about 800 violent herdsmen across the nation.

“The president has given firm instructions to the security agencies to arrest not only herdsmen who are attacking communities anywhere in the country, but anyone of them or anyone at all in possession of firearms. There are about 800 of suspected violent herdsmen in the country that are currently in custody,” he said.

The vice president however lamented that the slow pace of the criminal justice system in the country was stalling prompt trial of the suspects.

“There has always been conflict between herdsmen and communities across the country and people should disabuse the notion that the problem started because President Buhari, a Fulani man, is currently at the helm in the country,” he said.

Osinbajo also hinted that the federal government was working “to introduce community policing that would be in line with the constitution”, saying, “the current situation where police activities are controlled at the federal level has some limitations.”

Patience Jonathan Said Women Would Return To Kitchen Under PMB, Was She Right?

Patience Jonathan said women would return to the kitchen under Buhari — was she right?

One would have thought it ironic that President Muhammadu Buhari would joke about his wife belonging to his kitchen while standing next to the Angela Merkel, the female German chancellor.

Buhari made this statement while responding to a question about the interview granted by Aisha Buhari, his wife, to BBC Hausa, during which she said she would not campaign for him in 2019 if things did not change in his government.

AISHA THE GOOD WIFE

At the start of the 2015 presidential election campaign, Aisha Buhari was absent on the political scene until her husband introduced her at a rally in Ogun state.

After their victory, she described her husband as a “gender-sensitive man with many daughters”, saying she was absent at the campaigns because she had tofocus on the home.

In the same vein, she accepted thatshe would perform her duties traditionally as thewife of the president if her husband scrapped the office of the first lady and also expressed trust in her husband’s ability tomake Nigeria greatagain.During a visit to Kubwa general hospital in 2015, Aisha Buharipleaded with Nigerian mennot to abandon their wives in times of trouble.

FEMALE APPOINTMENTS IN HIS CABINET

Not taking the women in the Nigerian senate and house of representatives into consideration, President Muhammadu Buhari has made a total of 11 female appointments in his government.

This is far less than the 35 percent stipulation of the 2006 national gender policy.

These 11 appointments are six female ministers, Amina Zakari as acting INEC chairperson, Abike Dabiri and Maryam Masha as special advisers, Hadiza Bala Usman and Esther Nnamdi Ogbue as directors of Nigeria Ports Authority and Petroleum Products and Marketing company respectively.

Citizens, especially females, have been clamouring for a balance in the appointments. Most notable is Aisha Buhari who “seeks fair representation”.

“This is not fair; we are not asking for equal representation but fair representation in governance,” she said.

IS MAMA P NOW A PROPHETESS?

While campaigning for her husband’s re-election in 2015, Patience Jonathan, wife of the immediate past president, told supporters that Buhari would sideline women.

“During Buhari’s era, he said women should be confined to the kitchen but under Jonathan’s administration, women have been liberated to contribute to national development,” she said in Enugu.

“If you vote for Buhari again, you will return to the kitchen. It is not our portion to go back to the kitchen. We have women that are capable. We can contribute our quota to the development of Nigeria.”

Buhari’s image maker may have already dismissed his kitchen comment as a joke, but what if he meant it and he was only fulfilling Patience Jonathan’s prophecy?

GMO Foods: Shoprite, Next Superstores May Be Shut Down By The Federal Government

Through its National Biosafety Management Agency, the Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a seven-day ultimatum to retail store giants, Shoprite and Next Cash ‘N’ Carry to withdraw any product that contains Genetically Modified Organisms from their stores or risk a total shutdown.

The Director-General, NBMA, Dr. Rufus Ebegba, said the complaints has come from the public about the sale of GMO foods in the two stores.
He stated, “Recently, we carried out a survey of likely GMO products and we have been able to have some collections, some materials that we call GMO suspects. We call them GMO suspects because we have not been able to ascertain their status.

“Why we have invited the superstores basically is for them to understand that some of their products need to be properly ascertained before they are brought in, especially the imported ones that may contain genetically modified materials, so that they will not run afoul of the law.

“There is a law in place. We will not want any segment of the society out of ignorance to act in manners that will infringe on the law. The Biosafety Management Act empowers the NBMA to regulate the activities of modern biotechnology and the use of genetically modified organisms.”

According to him, the agency will not be hesitant in shutting down stores found selling unregistered GMO products in the country.
Edegba encouraged representatives of the superstores to ensure that all GMO products on their shelves were duly registered by the agency by obtaining permits.

He said, “If they have any GMO food in their stores, they should withdraw them from their shelves within seven days. The NBMA will not hesitate to shut down those stores found selling GMO products. We will not want to see any GMO food in your stores. We urge you to comply with this Act.“We have taken samples, which we are analysing. This information is not peculiar to only the superstores. We are not threatening anybody, we are just telling you the consequences of dealing in GMO products if found in these stores. Within the next seven days, we believe you will withdraw from your shelves all foods that are derived from genetically modified organisms.”

The NBMA boss added, “Please, it is an advice and this advice is not without a legal backing. So we urge you to withdraw all GMO foods from your shelves and formalise your dealings by obtaining permits.

Hey Guys, We are here again..Today we will be looking at BAD BREATH Popularly called or known as MOUTH ODOR.

Mouth Odor which is otherwise known as bad breath, or halitosis, is an unpleasant odor of the mouth. It can occur on occasion, or it can be a chronic condition. It may be caused by foods a person eats, poor oral hygiene, medical conditions, or other factors.
It could also be defined as the presence of a foul-smelling odor that seems to come from the mouth cavity. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, in more than 90% of cases, the odor originates in the mouth, throat, and tonsils. Although this is something everyone experiences at one time or another, if your case does not improve after brushing, flossing, and rinsing the mouth with an alcohol free mouthwash, it may be chronic.

Causes Of Mouth Odor
FOOD: Food is a primary source of bad odors that come from the mouth. Some foods, such as garlic, onions, spicy foods, exotic spices (such as curry), some cheeses, fish, Meats and acidic beverages such as coffee can leave a lingering smell. Most of the time the odor is for a short while. Other foods may get stuck in the teeth, promoting the growth of bacteria, which causes bad breath odor.

POOR HYGIENE : When a person does not brush regularly, food particles remaining in the mouth can rot and cause bad odors. Poor dental care can lead to a buildup of plaque in the mouth, which causes an odor of its own. Bacteria cause the formation of toxins to form, which irritate the gums. If gum disease continues untreated, it can damage the gums and jawbone.

HEALTH ISSUES: pneumonia, sore throat and other throat infections, tonsil stones ,thrush, diabetes, acid reflux, lactose intolerance, other stomach problems, and some liver diseases or kidney diseases may be associated with bad breath.

MORNING BREATH: Bad breath in the morning is very common. Saliva production nearly stops during sleep, allowing bacteria to grow, causing bad breath or mouth odor.
Also Long periods of speaking, smoking, drinking alcohol, and snoring are a few common underlying causes. Most people experience foul breath in the morning due to lack of saliva production while they sleep. For healthy individuals, food odors are temporary and normal salivary flow will eliminate them.

PREGNANCY: Being pregnant in itself does not cause bad breath, but the nausea and morning sickness common during pregnancy may cause bad breath. In addition, hormonal change, dehydration, and eating different foods due to cravings may also contribute to bad breath during pregnancy.thin several minutes.

SYMPTOMS OF MOUTH ODOR
1.Unpleasant or sour taste or changes in taste,
2. Dry mouth,
3. Coating on the tongue

TREATMENT OF MOUTH ODOR

1 Brush and floss teeth regularly. Remember to brush the tongue, too. This can help with bad breath caused by foods a person has eaten.

2 2 Try and See a dentist regularly to ensure dentures or braces are properly fitted and cleaned.

33 Quit smoking or using chewing tobacco.

4 Keep the mouth moist by drinking water and chewing sugarless gum or sugar-free hard candy to stimulate the production of saliva. Mouthwash may temporarily mask bad breath odors, but it may not treat the underlying cause.

Natural remedies to treat bad breath include chewing on mint or parsley.

If bad breath is due to a health problem such as a sinus infection, diabetes, acid reflux, etc., it needs to be treated appropriately.

But, If bad breath is a side effect of taking a medication, discuss with a doctor whether there are other options for medication that can be taken. Never stop taking a medication without first consulting your doctor..

Enyeama Will Return If We Qualify For World Cup – Rohr

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, has disclosed that Enyeama will return to the national team if Nigeria qualifies for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Edition. The German stated this in an interview with completesports.com.

He responded with an answer that indicated that he made a successful attempt to call Enyeama and convince him to return from retirement to a question that was directed to him on if he will replace the arguably best goalkeeper in Africa with Carl Ikeme due to his recent impressive performance for the Super Eagles. According to him, both Carl and Enyeama will be very good goalkeepers for the Eagles, acting as surrogations for each other.

Excerpt
With Carl's performance in goal, do the Super Eagles still need Vincent Enyeama?

Yes, I said it that I wanted Vincent Enyeama to return from retirement and I called him and we spoke with him. He will come back if we qualify for the World Cup. We need very good goalkeepers in the Eagles. We have two local goalkeepers whom I don't know if they will fit in if Carl sustains an injury, so I think we need two big goalkeepers. Of course for this moment, Carl is number one. We cannot change him, he will be number one for the next game.

Cultists Kill Benue State University Student & Girlfriend

Kunle Falayi

A cult war in the Benue State University, Makurdi, has claimed the life of a 21-year student of the Department of Geography, Solomon Aondoaseer, who was gruesomely murdered along with his girlfriend on Wednesday.

Aondoaseer and his girlfriend, whom the police identified as a food vendor in the area where the student lived, were hacked to death in front of a private hostel where he lived.

The girlfriend identified as Doofan Agbaja, was said to have become a fatal victim of a war she knew nothing about when she spent the night at Aondoaseer’s room.

S aturday PUNCH was told that as the attack took place, the two victims screamed for help but no one dared to come to their rescue.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident, said they did not kill them inside the house but took them outside.

“The assailants pulled them out of the compound to an open ground in front of the house and hacked them to death with machetes,” he said.

Students of the university said Aondoaseer was a member of a rival cult group called the Red Viper, who had had a running battle for supremacy with the members in the campus.

Yamu said five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing.

The suspects were identified as Paul Adum (aka Reborn), Thaddeus Ukaaku (aka Waters), Damian Swem (aka Dammy), Terkumbur Gber (aka Shanke) and Teryila Aondona (aka Nasco).

The PPRO said they have also confessed to the crime and claimed that they killed the victim because he belonged to a rival group.

Benue State has seen an upsurge of killing by campus cultists in recent times.

Two weeks ago, two students were gunned down by suspected cultists in front of the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, around 8pm on September 28.

In June, students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and a security man attached to a private students’ hostel in the school were killed by suspected cultists.

Also in July, suspected cultists shot and killed a retired policeman and his son in Makurdi.

“We are sad about the interview granted by the wife of the President. We believe that opposition members in the country are using her against the government. Her statement is unfair and capable of inciting violence. It is a threat to the peace of the country and we do hope the security agencies will immediately arrest her.

“We believed that some ungrateful elements in the country are using the wife of the president to tarnish the image of the president and the country. Nigerians are not in her support. ”

Aisha’s BBC Interview – She Got It All Wrong, My Respect For PMB Just Soars

We’ve all been inundated by the interview granted BBC by the president’s wife which revealed personal and political happenings within the household of the Buharis. In response to the interview, we’ve also heard the president remark that his wife belongs in his kitchen and other rooms in his house. Without mincing words, I make bold to say that the president’s wife has lost much of the respect she used to command by her act and has made a bad situation far worse. On the other hand, the revelation has made my love for the president to increase.

Prior to the election of March 2015, GMB, as he was known then, made unambiguous statement on several occasions that “there won’t be an Office of the First Lady” if he became president. Majority of Nigerians applauded the statement on the strength of what past First Ladies had caused the country. We know of First Ladies who practically ordered appointed ministers around. We saw a First Lady embarrass a sitting governor. We saw many First Ladies having their own multitude of staff. The past First Ladies used to have budget drawn out for their office even though the Constitution of Nigeria has no recognition for such. These are only a few of many anomalies that were done in the name of Office of the First Lady. So, when PMB made the statement then, he clearly wanted to depart from that culture of impunity and Nigerians loved him for it.

In the said interview, Aisha clearly expressed frustrations at not having undue influence on the man appointed by Nigerians to do a job. She obviously is not having enough say on how ministers, DGs and other top government officials are appointed and this has disappointment her a great deal. Just like the Lagos Assembly shamelessly revealed their frustration about PMB not consulting with Tinubu on appointments, Aisha thought it right to express similar frustration but in the worst possible manner.

Let's Examine Key Statements of Her Interview:
1. "The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don't know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years."

This clearly shows Aisha’s disposition to have undue influence on appointments. If not, why does the president need to know those who work for him or the country? What is important is those people’s qualifications and ability to do the job. Why should the appointees be known to Aisha on the strength of being the president’s wife of 27 years? This statement by the president’s wife reveals a lot about why/how the past First Ladies and their husbands appointed incompetent political jobbers to positions.

2. "Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position."

If anything, this is a positive on the part of the president. This simply means “no one needs to lobby for an appointment under Buhari once they’re qualified to do the job”. Won’t any reasonable being love the man?

3. "He is yet to tell me but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again."

This is about the most ridiculous of all her statements! It smells arrogance and pompousness. Who makes who? Who is known in the political arena? It is because of Muhammadu Buhari that we got to know Aisha Buhari. It is Muhammadu Buhari that’s the politician and not Aisha Buhari. Buhari won the last election not because his Aisha was on the campaign train even though she might have swayed a few voters. In fact, report had it that PMB was reluctant to allow Aisha join the campaign train but for Tinubu’s intervention. So, it is overestimation of her contribution to her husband’s success at the polls to make this statement because she has no political structure or clout to wield such influence.

As I said earlier, PMB by this development has earned further respect from me and many like me. He has proved over and over that he cannot be dictated to whether you are a Tinubu, Obasanjo or even the person who many would have thought could be used to get him – Aisha his wife and mother of four of his children. PMB has once again proved to be a man of principle and high moral standards! This is the kind of leader Nigeria needs to get out of the mess bestowed on us by undue interference from those close to past presidents.

PMB’s “Aisha Belongs to My Kitchen” Comment
As unnecessary as the response from the president might seem, one has to put himself in a position of a man, the president of the most populous black nation on earth, whose wife has become rebellious and a political foe (frenemy sort of) ready to crash the castle built over many years. I must even commend him for finding the strength to beam with laughter when answering question on his wife’s interview.
The president’s comment at that time couldn’t have been better worded to a wife who behaved with arrogance and insubordination. To make it clear to the bigots and hypocrites, a wife’s primary place is in the kitchen and her husband’s home. Any and every other duty is secondary to that.

Yes, our wives are educated, work and participate in governance and Aisha Buhari’s case is no different as she’s known to have been educated by the same man she’s trying hard to destroy now. We all know Aisha had a beauty salon/spa and a few other businesses before PMB became president. PMB has appointed a few women into high position in his administration. We also know that his daughters are educated. Clearly, all these are a proof that the president is not someone who does not believe in women’s ability to be equal to that of men in every aspect of life.
However, if a woman thinks she has a right to have undue and unwanted influence in a man’s job/life, there is nothing wrong in putting such women where they primarily belong - the kitchen and other rooms.

What Aisha did is capable of ruining her marriage and she will be the ultimate loser at the end of it. If that happens, all those urging her on will not be there to console her or offer any help. I could have asked her to ask PMB’s first wife (Safinatu of blessed memory) if she regretted accepting money from IBB who was holding her husband in a cell. Surely, she must have regretted her action one way or the other.

Lawyers Avoid Some Courts Due To Corrupt Judges, Says SAN

Posted By: Joseph Jibueze on: October 13, 2016
A Senior Advocate of Nigerian (SAN) Mr Jibrin Okutepa, yesterday said some lawyers avoid taking their cases to some courts because of corrupt judges.

He said those condemning the mode of arrest of two Supreme Court justices, a Federal High Court judge and others ignored the substance.

Okutepa said: “When justice is bought and sold, there is no more hope for the society. What our society needs is an honest, trusted and trustworthy judiciary. Those of us who genuinely practice in our courts know what goes on in some courts.

“Some of us don’t go to some judges’ courts, not because we don’t like doing our jobs, but because it appears you don’t know the law in some of these courts. The language of the judgment depends on what is offered and not the settled principle of law.

“While I will always defend the judiciary, it will be difficult to offer the best of defence in favour of a judicial officer whose conduct and lifestyle suggests evidence of corruption.

“It is my thinking that we need to decide and come to agreement on what we want as a people. Do we want undiluted and unpolluted stream of justice? Then we must have judicial officers who are above board.”

According to him, a corrupt judge is a danger to the society, adding that lawyers must join hands to rid the judiciary of graft rather than shying away from the real issues.

He said: “I am really bothered as to why we devoted arguments on the propriety or otherwise of the method used by DSS to expose corruption on the part of some judges of our superior courts.

“I am not in position to say these gentlemen did or did not do what they were accused of. I am also not in a position to say the money recovered was theirs or planted.

“But I am in a position to be worried as to why it had to be them that money was planted on. I am worried that we talk more of the process used to let the Nigerian public know that all is not well. Have we all not agreed that all is not well?”

Be Ready For Defeat, PDP Tells APC

– The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Office, has has told the All Progressives Congress to prepare for its waterloo at the poll

– The party boasted that it would win the forthcoming election based on its physical achievements across the 18 local council areas of Ondo State

The campaign office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Office, has has told the All Progressives Congress to prepare for its waterloo at the poll.

In the statement, PDP said; “Let the APC set up 1000-man committee in Abuja to help it win in Ondo State, it will still not stop the party from meeting its waterloo. Our people are wise, educated and intelligent and cannot be bought over with money or the glib or window-dressing committee that looks set to perpetrate roguery or indecent political game.

“The APC, as our people know of it, is deceitful, undisciplined, unfocused, revisionist, fractious and cannot deliver on electoral promises as prevailing circumstances have shown.

“These are even made worse by the disunity and unending crises that not only recently cracked the wall of the party but also collapsed it in its entirety, with a sizeable chunk of its population going to join another party.”

The PDP also faulted a claim by the APC that the Ondo election would be difficult and at the same time a walk-over, describing the statement as contradictory and mischievous.

“If the APC does not have a hidden agenda for rigging or bullying of innocent voters, why is it describing the coming election as “difficult” and at the same time “a walk-over ?”

“Walk-over is a soccer language. It means your opponent has refused to participate in the compulsory match and as such, you are given victory without effort. That allegory can only mean that the APC wants to harass the PDP voters from coming out and that will not happen for a people determined to be liberated from hunger and economic misery,” the PDP stressed.

PDP added that voters in Ondo State would not abandon a party with achievements for another with no discernible results for almost two years of governance.

The party boasted that it would win the forthcoming election based on its physical achievements across the 18 local council areas of Ondo State.

Meanwhile, Justice Abang has replaced Eyitayo Jegede the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s candidate for November 26 governorship election.

Nigeria To Float Development Bank – Buhari

Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday disclosed that a new bank, Development Bank of Nigeria, would soon begin operations to strengthen the government’s economic diversification programme.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke while addressing the German-Nigeria Business Forum in Berlin.

Buhari was quoted as saying that the bank, when fully operational, would support small and medium enterprises in the country, by improving their access to financing.

“Our ambitions of creating a diversified and inclusive economy in Nigeria can only be achieved by having a mix of small, medium and large businesses.

“This is why we worked with the German development agency, KFW, in designing the Development Bank of Nigeria which will support the small and medium size enterprises both financially and technically to ensure they take their rightful place in the industrialization value chain.

“I am pleased to announce that Development Bank of Nigeria will be taking off soon and should be a game changer in our economic diversification plans,’’ he said.

Buhari, who described  Foreign Direct Investment into Nigeria from Germany as modest, urged prospective investors at the gathering to go beyond the expressions of interest and make binding commitments for trade, investments and industry in the key priority sectors of Agriculture, infrastructure, solid minerals and digital economy.

He said Nigeria which recorded a trade volume of 2.96 billion Dollars with Germany in 2015, still had a great deal of unexploited potential and room to diversify its exports to Germany and increase overall trade volumes

Nigerian Inflation Rises To 17.9 Percent In September – NBS

Oct 14 Annual inflation in Nigeria accelerated in September to 17.9 percent, a more than 11-year high and the eighth monthly rise in a row, highlighting the economic crisis in Africa's most populous nation.

The rise from 17.4 percent in August reflected higher prices for electricity, kerosene, transport and food, a separate index for which rose to 16.6 percent from August's 16.4 percent, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) saidon Friday.

"During the month, the highest increases were seen in clothing materials, shoes, books and stationeries," the NBS said in a statement.

Nigeria, Africa's biggest energy producer, has seen its economy slide into recession for the first time in 25 years, largely due to the impact of low oil prices. Crude oil sales account for 70percent of government revenue.

These problems have been exacerbated by a spate of militant attacks this year that have cut oil output and a dollar shortage on the currency markets that has frustrated businesses struggling to import raw materials for production.

On Friday the central bank auctioned a two-month dollar forwards to clear a backlog of demand from airlines, manufacturers and other companies, traders said.

The NBS has revised its forecast for year-end inflation, estimating the index will end at between 17.1 percent and 18 percent, up from 9 percent at the start of the year. (Reporting by Chijioke Ohuocha; editing by Mark Heinrich)

Group Ask Ambode To Retract Eviction Notice To Waterfront Settlers

The Nigerian Slum and Informal Settlement Federation, group which is the coalition of waterfront settlers in Lagos State has demanded the immediate retraction of the eviction notice issued to waterfront settlers in the State by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. The seven days eviction notice and plans of demolition of waterfront structures was announced by LASG on Sunday, October 9, 2016.
The group which comprises members from over seventy informal settlements expressed shock when the government issued the eviction notice few days after it staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
In a letter addressed to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode which was obtained by InsdeMainland, the group expressed its concern stressing that the development “seems to be a continuation of the anti-poor policies of Lagos State which we protested last week.”
“We belong to the city and we have a right to the city as well as a right to shelter and livelihood. Forceful eviction is not only unlawful, it is also ineffective. It will also not solve whatever problem your administration hopes to solve,” part of the letter reads.
Consequently, the group announced plans to proceed on a mass protest if the government does not officially retract the eviction notice by the evening of today, Wednesday, 12 October 2016.

The men took away his Laptops, his phones, his wife’s phones and every digital device in sight after ransacking their apartment.

Though the DSS has not confirmed his arrest, a source in DSS office Uyo said that the Presidency is not happy with Anyalekwa over IGBERE TV’s persistent pro Biafra publications. He was also wanted for questioning over what he called "some sensitive anti Buhari publications" recently.

The source also revealed that Anyalekwa was first taken to an unknown location in Uyo before immediately being transferred to Abuja.

Anyalekwa’s fast rising blog, (IGBERETVNEWS.COM), launched about a year ago has been attacked and shutdown severally by people suspected to be agents of the federal government over his persistent pro Biafra reports.

Just last Friday, The blog was shutdown by his host without any reason. On Tuesday 11th October, the site was restored after he changed his host, but surprisingly, it was shutdown again by the new host the following day (less than 48 hours later) without any concrete reason. The site is still down as at the time of this report as his engineers are reportedly battling round the clock to restore the site back online.

I hereby call on Buhari and his DSS people to immediately release Anyalekwa. The last time I checked, we‘re still in a democracy. If they have anything against the Blogger, the right thing to do is to charge him to court. Buhari should stop all these human rights violations before it’s too late.

How Nigeria Swapped 21 Chibok Girls For 4 Boko Haram Commanders - Daily Trust

How Nigeria swapped 21 Chibok girls for four Boko Haram commanders

Jihadist group Boko Haram has released 21 of the more than 200 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls held since April 2014 in a prisoner swap deal with the Nigerian government, local sources said Thursday.

The girls were exchanged for four Boko Haram militants in Banki, northeast Nigeria, said the local sources.

The Nigerian presidency said in a statement that the girls were released after negotiations between Boko Haram, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Nigerian and Swiss governments.

The statement added that negotiations are ongoing, raising the prospect of more releases.

"It is confirmed that 21 of the missing Chibok girls have been released and are in the custody of the department of state services," presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said in the statement.

"The release of the girls... is an outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government," Shehu said. "The negotiations will continue."

"The girls were brought to Kumshe, which is 15 kilometres (nine miles) from Banki where a military base is stationed, in ICRC vehicles," said a local source.

"The four Boko Haram militants were brought to Banki from Maiduguri in a military helicopter from where they were driven to Kumshe in ICRC vehicles."

From Kumshe, the Chibok girls were taken by helicopter to Maiduguri, the capital of northeast Borno state.

"The 21 (Chibok) girls arrived (in) Banki around 3:00 am (0200 GMT) where they found a military helicopter waiting. They were immediately ushered into the helicopter and flown to Maiduguri," said another local source.

- 'End of the insurgency' -

Over 200 girls were captured from the northeast Nigeria town of Chibok in April 2014 by Boko Haram militants as part of their fight to establish an Islamist state in the region.

The audacious kidnapping drew global attention to the jihadist insurgency engulfing the area.

Out of the 276 girls kidnapped, scores escaped in the hours after the kidnapping, while another was rescued earlier this year.

In September, the Nigerian government said that it had opened negotiations with Boko Haram to secure the release of the remaining girls but that the talks were derailed due to a split in the extremist group.

The identity of the girls has yet to be confirmed, said Bring Back Our Girls campaigner Aisha Yesufu.

"We cannot confirm anything yet," Yesufu said.

"As I depart Abuja for Germany on an official visit, I welcome the release of 21 of our Chibok girls, following successful negotiations," Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said in a statement on Twitter.

Prisoner swaps between Boko Haram and the Nigerian government have happened before, said Ryan Cummings, director at intelligence firm Signal Risk.

"Obviously the guys that Boko Haram wants released would be more high ranking," Cummings said.

"The trajectory of the insurgency has shifted in the favour of the Nigerian government of late.

"Let's hope that it's the start to negotiations to find the end of the insurgency."

The insurgency has claimed more than 20,000 lives, displaced 2.6 million people from their homes and thousands of children have been kidnapped since Boko Haram took up arms against the Nigerian government in 2009.

8 Facts You Should Know About The Release Of 21 Chibok Girls - Naij.com

It’s a happy day for many Nigerians following report that 21 Chibok girls have been releasedfrom Boko Haram captivity.
The 21 girls were released on Thursday, October 13, after being held captive by the insurgents for over two years.

21 Freed Chibok Girls, BBOG Reacts: We Always Knew PMB Could Rescue Chibok Girls

The BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) has described the release of 21 Chibok schoolgirls as a “wonderful development,” saying it knew President Muhammadu Buhari could secure the release of girls.

On Thursday, the government announced the release of the schoolgirls, explaining that they were released after a successful negotiation with the Boko Haram sect.

According to Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, the negotiation was brokered by the International Committee of Red Cross and the Swiss government.

Reacting to the development in a statement signed by Aisha Yesufu and Oby Ezekwesili, the advocacy urged the government to work towards ensuring the well-being of the released girls.

“We welcome reports from the Presidential Spokesperson, Garba Shehu, of the negotiated release of 21 of our abducted #ChibokGirls today,” read the statement.

“This wonderful development confirms what we have always known about the capacity of our goverment to rescue our #ChibokGirls.

“While awaiting further details, we take this opportunity to salute the work of our security services at the front lines — the commitment, resilience and tireless efforts of our members of the Multi-national Joint Task Force and the civilian JTF. We also thank the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Swiss government and all negotiators involved in securing the release.

“Following this development, we trust that our government will continue to work to keep the safety, security, and well-being of the other girls a high priority.

“We further urge the international community to continue to support our government’s effort to rescue all other abducted Nigerians, so that parents, the Chibok community, the nation, and the world can finally put an end to this nightmare once and for all.”

The BBOG statement contradicts previous utterances of the group, which doubted the capacity of the president to rescue the girls.

“Mr President you are a failure, I dare President Muhammadu Buhari, you should stand up and behave like a man,” Aisha Yesufu, a leader of the group, said only in August after the police barred the movement from entering the villa — the second time in four days.

Iran Condemns Attacks On Nigerian Shia Muslims

Iran Condemns Attack on Nigerian Shiite Mourners

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned deadly attacks on Shiite Muslims attending religious mourning processions in Nigeria, stressing the Nigerian government’s responsibility to ensure security for people.

Following Wednesday’s attacks on Shiite mourners in Nigeria’s cities of Kaduna and Funtua, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi called for efforts to end “cruel and violent acts by extremist and Wahhabi-affiliated forces that are, unfortunately, either supported or ignored by the Nigerian police.”

He underscored the need for the perpetrators of the bloody shootings to be immediately arrested and brought to justice.

Qassemi also highlighted the Abuja government’s responsibility for protection of Shiite mourners and ensuring security of the religious rites.

At least nine Shiite mourners were killed in Kaduna and Futuna on Wednesday after troops opened fire on them at Ashura processions, an event marking the anniversary of martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shiite Imam.

Tensions have been running high between the regime and Nigeria's Shiite Muslims who have been demanding the release of prominent cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky from prison.

The confrontation follows a spate of arrests over recent days of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, the mainstream Shiite group led by Sheikh Zakzaky.

The government has imposed a ban to prevent the movement’s supporters from attending ceremonies marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).

Aisha Buhari's Interview: BBC Defies Pressure From Presidency, Dogara & Daura

The Hausa Service of the BBC is defying presssure from the Presidency and National Assembly trying to stop it from airing the controversial interview the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, granted it.

A source within the Abuja Bureau of the BBC told Daily Trust that there was a letter from the Presidency asking the Hausa service of the BBC not to air the interview.

The Speaker of the House of Representative, Yakubu Dogara, according to the source, also tried to informally dissuade the BBC from airing the interview.

A son of Buhari's powerful nephew, Mamman Daura, is also said to have called to get the BBC not to use the interview.

In the interview Aisha Buhari had said those who worked for the president have been abandoned for those who don't even have voters card.

She also expressed fear of rebellion from the fifteen million people who voted her husband.

However, the source told Daily Trust, the BBC wouldn't backdown on its promise to air the interview as an independent media organisation.

The source said the only condition that can make the service not air the interview is for the interviewee, Aisha Buhari, to decide against it. Even in that case her voice recanting what she had said in the interview would be aired.

Therefore, a part of the interview will be aired in the service's morning broadcast tomorrow. It will be aired in full on its programme, 'Gane Mini Hanya', on Saturday.

Senate Moves To Legalise Lobbying In Nigeria

The Senate on Wednesday began moves to legalise lobbying in Nigeria as it passed for second reading, a Bill seeking for law to register and regulate lobbying as a profession.

The “Bill for an Act for the Regulation and Registration of Lobbyists in Nigeria and for other matters connected therewith, 2016’’ is sponsored by Dino Melaye, (APC, Kogi West).

While presenting his lead debate, Mr. Melaye argued that the National Assembly needed to recognise and approve professional lobbyists in the legislature.

He added that the Bill would also make provision for intending lobbyist to be duly registered under the Company and Allied and Matters Act.
Mr. Melaye said that the lobbyist after being registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) would also have to register with the Ministry of Justice to practice as lobbyist in the Senate or House of Representatives.

He defined lobbying as an activity in which special interests hire well-connected professional advocates, often lawyers, to argue for specific legislation in parliament.

He said that although the bill looked controversial and perceived as negative, lobbying took place at every level of government.
“The bill will create stricter registration requirement for lobbyists and also require lobbyists to disclose how much they make and spend on lobbying.
“It will ban lobbyist from paying for gifts and food as a means of inducement and it would give oversight agencies more powers to investigate violation of ethics laws,” he said.

The lawmaker added that the Bill will also offer the legislator opportunity to be more informed about a bill before it comes for reading.
According to him, the lobbyists will be readily available to inform the legislators of the idea behind the Bill being pushed.
Many senators, including Ben Bruce, Godswill Akpabio, and Mohammed Ali Ndume, who spoke, supported the Bill.
They argued that when passed, the Bill would help legislators to sponsor individual bills.
The senate referred the Bill to its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, with a directive to report back in three weeks.

No Nigerian Bank Is Undercapitalised –CBN

Lagos – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said that there is no truth in a report that seven Nigerian banks are undercapitalised. The Director, Banking Supervision, Mrs Tokunbo Martins, told journalists at the end of the Bankers Committee Meeting in Lagos on Wednesday that there was no truth in the report.

A Dubai-based International Investment Bank, Arqaam Capital, had reported that seven Nigerian banks were undercapitalised to the tune of N1tn about 3.2 billion dollars. Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele The stress test by Arqaam Capital also reported that two banks were close to being insolvent.

Martins said that commercial banks were facing some challenges that were not peculiar to Nigeria, adding that Non Performing Loans (NPL) at 11 per cent was not the focus for now. “As Director Banking Supervision, I wish to state that the report that seven banks are undercapitalised is not true. “That our banks have non-performing loans at 11 per cent is not the focus for now. We should totally ignore such a story,’’ Martins said.

The director said that commercial banks in the country had huge capacity to generate income to absorb any losses that could arise from such loans. “The fact that a country has non-performing loans at this period is expected. So, I don’t think that any jurisdiction should be demonised because of NPL,’’ Martins said.
