Cult clash in Ikorodu causes residents to panic
– Reports say more than six people have lost their lives
– Residents are warned not to leave their homes for safety reasons
There
is serious panic in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos, as residents of Adamo,
Mojoda, Arora and Ipoyewa are being terrorised by rival cult groups.
In
a telephone conversation with one of the residents, it was gathered
that a fight ensued between the and Eiye confraternity groups on
Wednesday, July 5, leaving more than six people dead in the process.
The
woman who pleaded anonymity also said that people have been restricted
from leaving the confines of their homes by members of the Nigeria
Police Force (NPF) and vigilante groups in the area.
According to
her, some group of persons suspected to be members of the cult were
dressed in all black and each of them carried machetes.
The
reason for the clash, it was also revealed, was that the group wanted to
get even after the other cult group killed many of their members during
a recent clash.
This is not the first time that violence has
been reported in Ikorodu and its environs as some alleged Niger Delta
militants last month, unleashed terror to landlords in area, killing
over 30 people, leaving many others injured.
