Lili Gabari Dies At 86

A renowned Kano politician Alhaji Lili Gabari is dead.
Late Gabari died in Kano yesterday after a protracted illness.

Aged 86, the late Gabari was an activist of the defunct Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and most recently the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Late Gabari was a member of the House of Representatives from Jahun/Aujara federal constituency under the defunct NEPU.
He also served as advisor on Assembly Matters to the former Kano state governor, late Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi.

Alhaji Hamza Darma, the deceased’s nephew who announced the death, said the funeral prayer was conducted at the deceased’s residence in Kabuwaya quarters, Kano city, at 4pm.

Speaking on his early political life, Alhaji Tanko Salihu Yakasai, a political associate to the deceased, said late Lili Gabari was among the few politicians that financed the activities of NEPU.

“He was a groundnut dealer who contributed financially to the activities of NEPU. He was among the few people that sacrificed their lives and resources to free the common man from the bondage of slavery in this country. He also fought for the nation’s independence,” Yakasai said, adding that Gabari’s contributions to the development of politics were enormous.

He said the death of the politician was a huge loss and getting a replacement for people like him would be a difficult task in this era.
