Alex Badeh ‘might jump bail in order not to face this shame’ – EFCC

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has been implored by the counsel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to remand former Chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh for fear that he might disappear if granted bail.
Alex Badeh is on trial for his involvement in the $2.1 billion arms scandal of the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
While convincing the court to deny Badeh’s plea for bail, EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, on Thursday, told the court that if granted bail, the accused might run away because of the mountain of evidence against him.

Rotimi told the court that the evidence the agency has against Badeh is strong and “he might want to jump bail in order not to face this shame”.
Furthermore, he argued that Badeh, if released might reach out to juniors in the force, who are part of the witnesses in the case. He also said ‘a big man should not avoid incarceration because of his status’.
Meanwhile, Samuel Zibiri, Badeh’s lawyer told the court that considering that his client has not in anyway misconducted himself and does not have a criminal record in his 35 years of service, her should be granted bail.
He noted that the alleged offence for which Badeh has been accused is a bailable one while pointing out that the EFCC had granted administrative bail to the defendant twice, but the conditions could not be met.
