have had to cut their prices and are now selling sex for as little as 2
euros (£1.40).

He conducted a study, based on interviews with 17,000 prostitutes, which found the average price for a 30-minute session had plunged from 53 euros (£37) six years ago, before the economic crash.
"Others are doing it to pay taxes, bills, for urgent expenses or a quick drug fix," said Professor Laxos.
Also many foreign prostitutes from Albania, Bulgaria and Africa had moved to richer European countries and 80% of prostitutes are now Greek, after years of being in the minority.

Prof Laxos said there were around 400 particularly desperate hookers and he added: "It doesn’t look like these numbers will fade. Prostitution is legal in Greece but few brothels are licensed and most prostitutes operate on the streets.
The news comes a month after a shocking story emerged of an unemployed Greek mother pimping her 12-year-old daughter to a priest and a pensioner for money.

The average price of a one-hour session in Europe is now 180 euros (£126).
