A bill for a law to establish the Plateau State peace building
agency has passed through its second reading on the floor of the House
of Assembly. The reading followed a presentation of the bill by member
representing Lantang North Constituency, Godfrey Lamdip while giving an
insight noted that the peace building agency will help coordinate and
provide a level playing ground for conflict resolution and urge the
house to consider the passage of the bill. In his contribution, member
representing Jos East Constituency, Joshua Madaki moved a motion that
the bill be committed to the house’s relevant committee for further
input.
The Speaker, Peter Azi who presided over plenary directed the house committee on Labour and Security to handle the bill and report back in two weeks time. Meanwhile, the Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, Peter Azi said the conference of speakers will continue to review and update its constitution to conform to the global trend in the legislative business.
Azi stated this while speaking with Assembly correspondents after his emergence as speaker North Central Zone of the Speakers Conference of Nigeria in Ilorin, Kwara State. He explained that one of his legacies will be to ensure the autonomy of state Houses of Assemblies and work towards improving the welfare of members and initiate laws that will promote good governance in the country.
