Timpre Sylva, the gubernatorial candidate of
the All Progressives Congress in the just concluded election in Bayelsa
state has been urged by political parties that contested the poll along
with him to accept the outcome in good faith.
This advice was given by the chairman of the political parties,
Prince Elema, at a news conference organized by the parties in Yenagoa
on Monday, January 11, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The coalition of the parties includes All Progressives Grand Alliance, Kowa Party, United People Party, among others.
Sylva had lost the keenly contested governorship election to incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the December 5, 2015 governorship election inconclusive and fixed the supplementary election for January.
Elema stated that Sylva should accept defeat so that peace can reign and understanding among the people of the state.
He said: “We are advising the APC candidate to accept the results and join forces to move the state forward.
“We are satisfied with the conduct of the whole election in the state and hereby endorse the results and accordingly, hereby congratulate the winner, Gov. Seriake Dickson of PDP.
“We equally commend INEC efforts in the distribution of materials and providing a level playing ground during the election.
“We should come together as one people and move the Ijaw nation forward.”
Meanwhile, Bayelsans had trooped out on the streets of the state capital, Yenagoa, to celebrate the re-election of Governor Dickson of the PDP for another term of four years.
Dickson, 49, won seven out of the eight local governments in the election defeating his closest rival, Sylva after a keenly contested election.
