Arsenal 0-0 Southampton: Gunners drop to fourth after Emirates stalemate - 5 things we learned

The Gunners had plenty of chances to win it but couldn't find a way past the excellent Fraser Forster, with Wenger's men now five adrift of leaders Leicester

Arsenal dropped to fourth in the Premier League table after being held by Southampton.
The Gunners had plenty of chances to win it but couldn't find a way past the excellent Fraser Forster.
The England stopper denied Mesut Ozil twice in the first-half and was at his best to keep out Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez after the break.
It's now four Premier League games without a win for Arsenal, who are five points off leaders Leicester.
Here are five things we learned.

1. Struggle for Campbell

Out of sorts: Campbell in action

Arsenal's Joel Campbell looks a big-four player one minute but out of his depth the next.
He'd benefit hugely from a season-long loan somewhere in the Premier League and the regular run of games that would bring.

2. Welbeck's timely return

Danny Welbeck is set to take a significant step towards his comeback from a long-term knee injury this week, according to Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners boss is planning to give the forward - out since April - a run-out in the Under-21s.

3. Concern over absent Austin

Missing: Southampton were without their new boy

Southampton new boy Charlie Austin will have to wait a little while longer to make his full debut.
The £4million buy from Crystal Palace was a surprise omission from Ronald Koeman's squad.
He has suffered what a club source described as "a little knock".

4. Wanyama dominant for Saints

Victor Wanyama has been linked with a move to Arsenal or Tottenham in recent transfer windows.
The Saints midfielder - along with his partner Oriol Romeu - cut an imposing figure out on the Emirates pitch.

5. Arsenal need Sanchez back to his best

Getting there: Sanchez is still some way off

Alexis Sanchez enjoyed what his manager called a two-month winter break while he recovered from a hamstring injury.
But he still has a little way to go until he is fully match.
For Arsenal's title aspirations, though, he cannot reach that level soon enough.
