www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/buhari-not-a-democrat-lacks-moral-rights-to-intervene-in-gambia-fayose/Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose hasdescribed President Muhammadu Buhari’sinvolvement in the meeting with PresidentYahya Jammeh to persuade him to concededefeat as an aberration, saying; “Aman likeBuhari under whose free, fair and credible elections no longer exist lacks moral rights topreach obedience to democratic principles toanyone.” The governor said great Africans like formerPresident Goodluck Jonathan, President JohnMahama of Ghana and others who have lostelections and conceded defeat were in thebest position to intervene in Gambia and notsomeone like Buhari, who lost election three timesand never conceded defeat. According to his Special Assistant on PublicCommunications and New Media, LereOlayinka, Governor Fayose wondered whatPresident Buhari, whose government isdesperately moving Nigeria from a multi-party democracy to a one party State, would have told President Jammeh in Gambiayesterday, He said “with what happened in Rivers Statelast weekend, it is certain that votes ofNigerians will no longer be allowed to countas the APC cabal in the Presidential villa hasnow assumed the roles ofINEC, allocating votes to their party and using security agents to force their will on thepeople.” Governor Fayose asked; “Did PresidentBuhari face Jammeh and advised him toaccept defeat the way he (Buhari) concededdefeat in 2003, 2007 and 2011 whenviolence was instigated and several people, including Youth Corp members were killed? Or did Buhari lecture Jammeh to take todemocracy at gunpoint, which is now thenorm in Nigeria? “How can Buhari, who has destroyed thelegacy of free, fair and credible elections thatwas handed over to him, be the one toprevail on someone else to adhere todemocratic principles?” He said Buhari should first remove the timberin his eyes before attempting to remove thetoothpicks in other peoples’ eyes, describingthe President as a physician who cannot healhimself but trying to heal others. The governor said even though PresidentJammeh behaved dishonourably by renegingon his initial promise to accept defeat, involvement of President Buhari in themeeting to persuade him to step down wasthe height of hypocrisy. The governor said that Nigerians are nowmore concerned with how to take back theircountry like the Gambians have done. “Nigerians are worried about the possibilityof Buhari behaving like Jammeh in 2019 afterhe must have been defeated and that theinternational community may need a high-powered delegation to pilot his rampagingbull out of Nigerians chinashop,” he said.
