Amaechi Demands Staff And Contract Audit At NIMASA

The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has ordered the immediate audit of all staff and contracts awarded at the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) since its establishment on August 1, 2006.

Punch reports that the minister stated this on a familiarization tour of the Nigeria Ports Authority and the Nigeria Shippers’ Council in Lagos on Monday, December 14.

He said: “I have asked the director of finance for the records of all the contracts awarded since the inception of NIMASA, the contractors’ identities and what stages the various contracts are at. I have also asked for records of all the revenues generated, what NIMASA remitted to the Federal Government, a list of all its employees and their roles in the agency.
The minister who condemned the poor environmental condition at the agency’s premises said “I look at your resource centre; it is dirty and unkempt. One wonders where all the billions of naira spent by NIMASA went. I can’t see any search and rescue equipment. Perhaps it is kept on the water,” he added
Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amechi had earlier visited the Nigerian Ports Authority where me was received by the managing director, Habib Abdullahi.
