Maiduguri Bombings: At Least 34 Dead, Scores Injured

Members of the Boko Haram sect have recently carried out several attacks in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, killings dozens of innocent people.
On Sunday, December 27, three wives of a village head and their ten children were reportedly blown up by a female suicide bomber who attacked their home.
Less that 24 hours after the attack, a twin-blast occurred at the Polo area of Maiduguri with one of them in a Fleeing terrorist was said to have left an improvised explosive device in the area during Sunday night’s attack on the city.
Briefing journalists, a medical director of the State Specialist Hospital revealed that the hospital received 34 bodies and was treating 86 injured victims of the attacks.
According to Sahara Reporters, another hospital, the Umoru Specialist Hospital, is treating 21 people injured by the bomb blasts including 4 pregnant women.
After visiting the victims, Governor Kashim Shettima stressed that the attack would not deter government from preaching for peace and tolerance amongst the citizens.
The governor also visited some of the scenes of the attack at Bakassi where he consoled the village head and the relatives of victims.

Members of civilian Joint Task Force said that at least 10 suicide bombers detonated IEDs in the last 24 hours and that they cordoned off the Polo area for the safety of civilians.
”I can’t get accurate figures but in all the attacks at least 40 people were killed and 90 others are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in Maiduguri, ‘‘ a source said.
However, the 7th Division of the Nigerian army has stated that 26 people were killed and 85 were injured, and that two suspected suicide bombers were captured by the military.

Meanwhile, some residents of Maiduguri were seen fleeing the Borno state capital, following a gun duel between the Nigerian troops and Boko Haram insurgents.
During the battle, the Nigerian military reportedly overpowered the terrorists and repelled any possible attack on the residents.
However, the residents are still feeling scared and unprotected; therefore, they are running for dear lives.
