How CBN governor gave ‘juicy appointments’ to children of APC leaders, government officials

About 91 persons are alleged to have been recently offered ‘juicy appointments’ into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through the influence of highly placed individuals in the federal government and in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
According to Sahara Reporters, the process through which the individuals were offered the appointments was highly selective.
Among those that allegedly got the job appointments include: the daughter of former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku, a son of Mamman Daura, a nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari and a very close associate of the President, a son of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, a daughter of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’aba.

Also listed was the daughter of of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, a son of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdurahman Danbazzau and at least 86 others.
The CBN’s former Director of Human Resources, Chizoba Mojekwu, was alleged to have been redeployed to the apex bank’s Directorate of Capacity Development and IT following the leaking of the list and the embarrassment it caused the government and the presidency.
Mojekwu was reportedly accused by the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, of leaking the list hence her redeployment to a new office.
According to Sahara Reporters, Emefiele had arranged the appointments to close associates of the government and party leaders as a way of saving his jo.
A source was quoted to have said that the practice of offering jobs to pacify government officials by the CBN governor started since President Buhari came into office last year.
The report also noted that in an effort to hide the identity of the appointees, the CBN management tweaked their names by using the individual’s first name and their father’s middle name or their maiden name.
While the daughter of Atiku Abubakar was listed as Maryam Abubakar, the name of the son of Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, was written as Nagode Abdulrahman.
A source revealed that the new appointees were given the opportunity of choosing any department that they desire.
“Jobs were just handed to the children of ministers in the current administration,” one bank official was reported to have said.
It would be recalled that President Buhari has been severally accused of being lopsided in his appointments, with critics noting that his appointments were slanted to favor a particular region over others and that his appointments were given to those who have been loyal to him.
