Contrary to claims made in court by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, that he isn’t a classmate of the embattled National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, new facts have emerged that both men were actually classmates.
A former chairman of the National Human Right Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, confirmed that Justice Abang and Metuh were classmates, who graduated together from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.
Metuh, who is on trial over allegations of corruption, had requested that his case be withdrawn from Justice Abang and transferred to another judge because he had no faith in Abang’s ability to deliver a fair judgement and also that Abang was a former classmate of his.
Justice Abang had denied being a classmate of Metuh.
However, Odinkalu, who happened to be a classmate of both men, told Premium Times that Justice Abang “surely knows that he and Olisa went to school together.”
“We were all in the same law school set in 1988. We were all admitted to the Bar same day on 3 Nov 1988. Fashola, Anyim, Godswill Akpabio, Liyel Imoke, Nnia Nwodo all were in that set.”
“I know Olisa and Abang have been together at more than two class reunions. In Lagos (and) Uyo. Someone isn’t being totally candid,” Odinkalu was quoted to have said.
