The British actor confirmed they fell out during the filming of Magic Mike
Years after it was rumoured Channing Tatum took a major dislike to Alex Pettyfer on the set of Magic Mike, the British actor has lifted the lid on what really happened.
The 25-year-old confirmed that all the rumours were true, and Channing really isn’t his biggest fan.
Speaking about their feud with Bret Easton Ellis for his podcast B.E.E, Alex revealed: "... Channing Tatum does not like me - and for many reasons. Many being my own fault."
The actor claimed the Step Up star wasn’t keen on hiring him in the first place for the 2012 film because of his difficult reputation, but went ahead with the casting anyway. This resulted in Alex's reps advising him to keep a low-profile on set, he says.
"I was scared to speak. I actually did my work and I sat in the corner and listened to music because I had been told anything I did was wrong by my reps. I was very insecure as a human being.
"That also gave me a bad rep because everyone was like, 'Alex doesn't speak because he thinks he's better than everyone else.' That's not true. I was just generally nervous and scared to be myself. I was in character."
Things then escalated when he missed a rent payment when staying at one of Channing’s friend’s flats in New York.
Alex was living there with his ex-fiancee Riley Keough at the time but moved out due to allergies he claimed were caused by mould and dust.
“I should have paid then and there," he conceded, but then Alex's cousin unexpectedly passed away.
“I was devastated and was dealing with family trauma and forgot about the situation.
"All of a sudden, I got a very negative email from Channing -
rightfully so - saying, ‘Don't f**k my friends. You owe money. Pay the
f***ing money. Don't be a clown,'" he recalled.
"And I really took that the wrong way, which I shouldn't have, and emailed him back and said, 'I'm in a real negative head space and can you respect me for a moment and blah, blah, blah.’ And I got hounded through this time of grieving for money."
He continued: "By the end of it, I just said, 'F**k them, what is money when life is so much more. I'm not paying.' And I should have just paid. I think he was looking for an excuse to not like me.”
When he returned for Magic Mike re-shoots, things remained frosty and the actor claims Channing had told the rest of the cast that he didn’t like him.
"What Channing says goes. He’s a movie star. I made the poor decisions.”
Despite the fall-out, Alex said he wouldn’t change the experience.
"Channing was actually an incredible influence on me because after this whole situation happened - this was kind of the end of my immaturity and all my experiences put into one - and Steven Soderbergh [Magic Mike director] was a huge part of that as well and I owe my life to that man,” he explained.
"It was an incredible experience making Magic Mike. I wouldn't replace it for anything."
