Lagos Police Kill 10 Gunmen In 12 Days

More suspected armed robbers and miscreants have been arrested in Lagos on various charges, lots of property has been seized, and several gunmen have been killed by police in the state over the last two weeks.

10 suspects killed in 12 days

No fewer than 10 suspected armed robbers were killed in the last 12 days in different parts of Lagos state during exchanges of gunfire with the police, Premium Times has reported.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, made this information public on Monday while addressing journalists and reporters on the activities of the police command over the last two weeks.
Owoseni said that while some of the suspects died while exchanging gunfire with the police who caught them committing a gridlock robbery, others died while robbing members of the public in different areas of Lagos

Four speedboats seized by the police

He said that nineteen other robbery suspects and eleven cultists were arrested.  Fifteen items of ammunition, eight guns and two vehicles were recovered within the same period.
Owoseni also said that four speed boats, two canoes, four military camouflage uniforms, two mobile police uniform, and handsets used by the robbers to attack banks in Agbara, and Ogun have been seized by the police.
The commissioner said that within the period, 949 suspected miscreants were arrested during raids of some black spots but 83 were released after screening.

866 miscreants charged with offences

Owoseni said 866 were charged with various offences, adding that 1,060 motorcycles were impounded for contravening the ban on commercial motorcycles plying the highways.
He noted that the incidents of traffic robbery had been reduced but said that there was a need for members of the public to give prompt information to the police if they know of any criminality.
Some of the arrested suspects and evidence seized by the police were paraded after the commissioner spoke.
