Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham: Harry Kane double sees Spurs close gap at the top - 5 things we learned

The England striker took his tally to 19 goals for the season at Villa Park as Spurs put the pressure on the leaders with a comfortable victory

Harry Kane was the star of the show again as Tottenham closed the gap on leaders Leicester.
The England striker missed a number of chances early on but struck the opener on the verge of half-time after good work Dele Alli.
The pair combined again shortly after the break as Kane fired home his 19th league goal of the season, with Villa's shambolic defending continuing.
Spurs are now two points behind Leicester at the top, with Claudio Ranieri's men in action against Newcastle on Monday.
Here are five things we learned.

1. Tottenham's deadly away form returns

Spurs' defeat at West Ham last time out was their first in 13 Premier League away games.
But they got back on track here with their eighth win on the road.

2. Spurs set for best-ever season

Tottenham have 58 points, their highest-ever tally after 30 matches of a Premier League season.
They have leaders Leicester firmly in their sights.
Will this be their year?

3. Kane more prolific than Villa

Spurs: Kane has 19 league goals this season
Harry Kane has now scored 18 goals in his last 21 league appearances for Tottenham
That's two more than Aston Villa have managed in the same period.
It helps explain why Villa will finish bottom – and Spurs perhaps top.

4. Big job for Villa's board members

Ex-Villa player and boss Brian Little was in the stands after being named an adviser to the board , while ex-Man City and FA chief David Bernstein has joined the board.
Their experience is a welcome addition to the club but could not prevent a 20th league defeat of the season.
That equals their previous worst tally of Premier League defeats in a single season.

5. Lamela keeping it simple - and it's paying off

The Argentine, signed for £25.7m from Roma in August 2013, continues to get better and better for Spurs after his torrid start to life in England.
He had a hand in both the visitors' first two goals here with unselfish, intelligent play.
