The Plateau State government through the secretary to the state
government Hon Rufus Bature has issued a statement concerning the
reactions trailing the on-going review committee work on the creation of
villages, districts, and chiefdoms.

Government has followed with keen interest the disturbing state of public commentary from individuals, ethnic and socio-cultural groups on the on-going review committee work on the creation of villages, districts, and chiefdoms. To say the least, these comments rather than further consolidate on the hard earned peace in the State are capable of inciting and triggering the kind of conflicts that have troubled the peace of Plateau for more than a decade.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Review Committee mandate is principally to provide the citizenry, a platform to present for Government’s consideration perceived injustices in past exercises of like nature that have distorted history and tempered with the institutional structure of existences of the various communities and ethnic groupings.
Government wishes to state categorically that it will be pre-emptive for any individual, or group of individuals to draw conclusion with inflammatory comments on an exercise that is on-going, and which is open to every group to present their case for consideration.
Furthermore, Government wishes to state that it would not sit and fold her arms when her efforts in building an enduring peace on the Plateau is been jeopardised by any person or group of persons. It therefore warns all those who will desire for their self serving interest, to fracture the peace being enjoyed and the confidence government has earned from the citizenry, with unguided and inciting comments, to desist forthwith or be made to face the wrath of the Law.
