England keeper Joe Hart hobbled off injured eight minutes from time with a hamstring problem and a sore back, with Willy Caballero replacing him
Manuel Pellegrini fears for Joe Hart after the keeper hobbled off injured.
The England No.1 was subbed eight minutes from time with a hamstring problem and a sore back as Manchester City saw their hopes of topping Group D dented by Mario Mandzukic.
Croatian striker Mandzukic sealed a Juve win after 18 minutes , tapping home a brilliant cross in behind the defence from Alex Sandro.
Defeat, City’s second in five days, means they need Juventus to lose their final game at Sevilla, and to win theirs, against Borussia Monchengladbach, to finish top.
Pellegrini said: “It is impossible to know how serious Hart’s injury is. He has a problem with his hamstring. He has been carrying a problem in his back for the week.
“We hope not to lose him. But for if for some reason he cannot play I have trust in Willy (Caballero).”
Pellegrini says City will fight to the end to top group D, having already qualified for the last 16.
He said: “I think the group is not finished. We have to wait on Juve playing Seville away from home. That is a difficult game and the group is not finished. I hope we beat Borussia. We can still finish top of the group.”
Pellegrini’s side had chances to score, but Juve were ruthless. He added: “Both teams played well and we were unlucky to lose that game. Mandzukic finished the play but we had chances to draw. We missed chances.
“It was important to score the first goal. We had the first chance, Fernandinho to score, but we didn’t. We tried to dominate the game. I am not unhappy the way we played.
“They are not and easy team, or stadium, but it is not the result we wanted. We have so many injuries it is difficult.”
Pellegrini added: “It is important the way you arrive in the knock out stage. We have already seen a strong Barcelona. We hope our team will have more luck in the draw of the round of 16.”
David Silva has a chance of bring fit for the weekend against Southampton, but Vincent Kompany out for another two weeks.
